Mozart Takes Center Stage
On the 11th June the Durban City Orchestra proudly presents Magical Mozart, a concert dedicated to the music of the immortal Wolfgang Amadeus.
Performing in the surreal setting of the Marianhill Monastery Church with its wonderfully warm acoustics, the DCO will let the beautiful melodies that are so synonymous with Mozart soar.
Opening the concert will be the overture to the opera Don Giovanni, with its flowing strings and winds and humorous character hiding dark undertones. The soloist for this concert will be DCO’s own principal flautist Rozanne Paragon, playing the G-Major Flute Concerto. Often considered one of the corner-stones of the flute repertoire, this challenging piece for soloist and orchestra, will see the DCO reducing its numbers somewhat to give an authentic chamber music feel.
The featured work will be Mozart’s Symphony no 40 in G-minor – one of the most iconic melodies ever written. Sometimes considered as possessing Grecian lightness and grace but almost always as tragic in tone and intensely emotional, the work looked forward towards Beethoven and even the development of romanticism.
Conducted by DCO Resident Conductor Russell Scott, this concert truly offers a real treat to classical music lovers.
The setting is Idyllic and the music timeless.
