A First for Durban! A Side by Side Symphony!!!
The DCO is incredible proud and excited to be part of Durban’s first ever, Side by Side Symphony project.
Proudly hosted by Umhlanga College, on the 7th November 2014, the DCO will combine forces with Africa’s premier Orchestra, the KZN Philharmonic in a massive symphonic spectacular!
With over 100 musicians on stage, this collaboration is something unique to Durban, and promises an evening of sheer musical bliss, with something for everyone!
The KZN Philharmonic, well know for it’s community engagement and outreach programs will not only be playing alongside the Durban City Orchestra, but training these enthusiastic amateur players throughout the process of rehearsals.
The concert will be conducted by American born KZNPO resident conductor Daniel Walshaw, as well as DCO resident conductor Russell Scott, and will include a program of Beethoven, Shostakovich, Bach and even massed items with the incredibly talented music students of Umhlanga College!
“This is a great opportunity for our players” says DCO Chairman Edrich Delange, “After many years of building relationships, we could not hope for a better result than having DCO play in unison with the extraordinary musicians of the KZNPO.”
